🏡 CAN I INVEST IN IBEJU-LEKKI WITHOUT LIVING THERE?
Description
🏡 CAN I INVEST IN IBEJU-LEKKI WITHOUT LIVING THERE?

A question I hear a lot is:

“I'm interested in buying property in Ibeju-Lekki, but I don't live in Lagos. How do I know I'm making the right decision?”

The honest answer is: you can invest from another city. But you shouldn't invest blindly.

You don't have to be physically present every step of the way. What matters is having the right verification process, trustworthy professionals on the ground, proper documentation, and a clear investment strategy.

Here are some ways it can work:

📍 LAND BANKING

One option is land banking—buying land and holding it while the area develops.

But don't just hear “Ibeju-Lekki is developing” and send your money.

Ask questions. Who owns the land? What documents does it have? Is there any government acquisition? Can the location be physically verified?

🏠 RENTAL PROPERTY

You can also buy a property for rental income even if you don't live nearby.

But someone still has to manage it.

Who will deal with tenants? Who collects the rent? Who handles repairs when something goes wrong?

That's where property management comes in. Having someone trustworthy on ground can make remote ownership much easier.

🤝 DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIPS

You don't always have to build everything yourself.

You may participate in a development partnership where different parties bring land, money, expertise or development services to a project.

But before putting money into one, understand exactly what you're getting, who owns what, how profits are shared and what happens if things don't go according to plan.

🔎 REMOTE DUE DILIGENCE

This is where I would tell anyone investing from outside Lagos: don't skip this part.

You can have the documents checked by a lawyer, investigate the property's ownership and title, confirm the actual location, arrange someone to inspect the land and review the agreement before you pay.

Because honestly, seeing a beautiful property video on WhatsApp doesn't mean you've verified the property.

📱 “BUT I DON'T LIVE IN LAGOS.”

That's okay.

Someone in Abuja can invest in Lagos.

Someone in Port Harcourt can invest in Ibeju-Lekki.

Someone living in London, Toronto or New York can also explore property opportunities in Nigeria.

That's the reality of remote property investment in Nigeria today.

The question isn't simply, “Can I invest from another city?”

The better question is:

“Who is representing me, and how are they verifying what I'm buying?”

⚠️ DON'T LET DISTANCE MAKE YOU CARELESS.

I've seen how easy it is to get excited when someone tells you, “This area will soon develop.”

But property investment shouldn't be based on excitement alone.

Check the documents.

Check the location.

Check the ownership.

Ask questions.

Get independent advice where necessary.

If you're looking to invest in Lagos from another city, you don't necessarily need to be physically present every time.

But you do need to make sure someone trustworthy is doing the work you cannot do yourself.

Because when you're not there physically, due diligence becomes your eyes on the ground.
